چکیده

Muscles are the only tissue in the body that has the ability to contract and therefore move the other parts of the body. Physical activity is the one important factor which affects the skeletal muscle function. Regular physical activity is recommended in youth today to improve the physical and mental well being. The aim of this study is to assess the skeletal muscle function in sedentary and physically active young adults by using Mosso’s ergogaph and 40mm endurance test. A cross sectional study was conducted among 50 sedentary and 50 physically active healthy medical and paramedical students in the department of Physiology, Sri Ramachandra Medical College & Research Institute, Chennai. Both sexes were included in this study and their age group is between 17 to 28. Our results showed that work done and respiratory endurance were higher in physically active young adults than sedentary young adults in both sexes. So we conclude that regular physical activity increases the strength of the muscles and increases the endurance of the respiratory muscles which improves the cardiorespiratory efficiency in young adults.

Surface Electromyographic Assessment of Swallowing Function

The reliability of surface electromyographic (sEMG) variables during swallowing determines the potential usefulness of these measures in swallowing assessment and treatment. This study aimed to establish the reliability of the sEMG measures of the swallowing function of muscles during different swallowing conditions in healthy young and old volunteers. Two groups of volunteers (24 older adults,...

Evaluation of Hemodynamic Response Function in Vision and Motor Brain Regions for the Young and Elderly Adults

Introduction: Prior studies comparing Hemodynamic Response Function (HRF) in the young and elderly adults based on fMRI data have reported inconsistent findings for brain vision and motor regions in healthy aging. It is shown that the averaging method employed in all previous works has caused this inconsistency. The averaging is so sensitive to outliers and noise. However, fMRI data are o...

Endothelial Vasodilator Angiotensin Receptors are Changing in Mice with Ageing

Background: The vascular function of Angiotensin II-type-2 receptors in adults is controversial. We sought their location and function in mouse aortic rings at young and old mice. Materials and Methods: Male C57Bl mice (aged 4 and 14 months) were killed by CO2. The descending thoracic aorta was cleaned and dissected into rings. Aortic rings were mounted in Krebs’ solution at 37 °C an...
